What you can expect as part of your eye examination....

— Case History —

We take a full case history of your ocular and medical health along with notes on medication and lifestyle choices. This allows us to get an overview into your life and the requirements for your vision.

— Vision —

As part of the the consultation, your vision is probably one of the most obvious parts of the tests undertaken. Our professional Optometrist will assess all aspects of vision including, distance, reading, driving and any bespoke requirements such as orchestral music, VDU, sport specific. Once we have a prescription, your Optometrist will then be able to make recommendations to ensure you continue to maintain optimum vision through spectacle or contact lens choice.

— Health —

Using the very latest technology, your Optometrist will then be able to conduct an overall health assessment of your eyes. This includes looking at both the surface & the inside of your eye, intraocular pressures, 'field of vision', colour vision and many more tests.

If the Optometrist feels it is necessary they may also recommend an OCT scan ( see more information below about the vital diagnostic equipment).

Ocular Coherence Tomography is an advanced eye scan for people of all ages. Similar to ultrasound, OCT uses light rather than sound waves to reveal the many layers that make up the back of the eye. This OCT scanner captures multiple digital scans of the inner surface of the eye, so that areas of concern identified can be cross referenced with the classic view of the back of the eye that we see.

In other words, if you are looking at an iced cake before it has been sliced, you don’t know if it contains jam, cream or chocolate layers; equally if it’s lumpy or smooth. With this unique NON-INVASIVE technology we are able to see both the surface of the back of your eye (the top of the cake) and a three dimensional image of the layers that are beneath the surface.

Using this machine, we can more confidently diagnose, manage or refer you for further treatment, should this be required. For the majority of patients, OCT provides significant reassurance that the deeper layers of their eye are healthy.

There is an additional charge of £30 for the OCT scan, but the benefits are obvious; you can enjoy the peace of mind that comes from knowing that your eyes are in great condition.

— What is OCT? —

I had a painful irritation in one of my eyes and I was able to book a last minute appointment with Claire late in the day. After looking at the offending eye she suggested I should go straight to York hospital which she arranged for me. The specialist at the hospital said if I’d left it another day my eye would have been permanently damaged so as you can imagine I am eternally grateful for Claire! Very thorough and knowledgeable, excellent optometrist.
